Grandpa's 90th

In April, Myles and I, along with my mom and dad, Siri, and Raum, drove to Iowa to celebrate Grandpa Haugen's 90th birthday. Grandpa had had some medical issues starting in February, followed by a worsening of his confusion, memory, and overall cognition. He was temporarily living at a rehab center waiting for room to open up at the memory care center affiliated with their assisted living facility. It had been a stressful couple of months for him, my grandma, and my mom and her siblings, but everyone had pulled together well to take care of him.

It was so wonderful to see Grandpa. Although confused at times, he was still loving, tender, witty, and interested. He asked me several questions about my family and how life is going in Colorado, and he enjoyed watching Myles and Raum play. We were all very excited that he was with us to celebrate his 90th birthday, and in good spirits for his dinner out. It was really special.
