Myles is in his third full week and has had a great transition so far - phew! I was a bit concerned with the jump from kindergarten to first grade because the academic demands are greater and he now has a desk for the first time to sit at for some of the day, but he has done really well. He is still in the general ed class for the whole day, with the exception of a few pull outs for speech therapy and occupational therapy. We hear he's fully independent with the morning routine, and is already showing progress in counting, number identification, speech, and has a lot of interest in literacy right now. Praying this is the year he officially learns to read! We are thrilled with his school and the amount of support he has to be successful alongside his friends/peers.
Sydney was super excited for kindergarten and eased right in with no issues. It helps that she is familiar with the school already and has the same teacher Myles did for his first year of kindergarten. Sydney has been loving it since, and her teacher reports that she is very independent and doing great. Sydney was really ready for this next step, but it's still a little hard to believe she is already in elementary school! She is in the 2.5 day program, and gets to ride the bus with Myles two mornings and one afternoon a week, which is big highlight for her. She's also making new friends, but of course can almost never remember their names. She came home the first day and said she had a new best friend, but couldn't recall her name - sounds lasting! She's also proud of her new found ability to do the monkey bars all on her own, and says she spends her time at recess on the monkey bars and doing push ups. What?! Funny kid. Just today she told me about the classroom system where each kiddo has a clothes pin with his/her name on it, and if a kid is acting out, Mrs. Babbs will have them move their pin from green to yellow, and if it gets to red she will call his/her parents. Sydney then said she will never let that happen because she loves us so much. I'm not thinking we're going to have any trouble with her!
Sydney and her friend, Maddie, who she already knew from soccer.
The night before her first full day of school, Sydney wanted to help make her lunch, and Myles joined in shortly after.
And
little Ryker-Man. He "graduated" from Junior Preschool on a Thursday,
and moved to his new Preschool class the following Monday. He is still
going two full days a week and although sometimes resistant in the
mornings, he is always happy when we pick him up and has learned so much
during his first year and a half at The Village. Ryker is a crack-up, quick with his responses, and smart. I'm excited to see what this next year will bring!
